Missions Monday – Blog

Where is your HEART today?

Hi, I’m Genie and I have a heart for Missions. It is sometimes a wonder how small moments in life can impact you for decades.

I know that I was in my pre-teen and teen years (late 1970s / early 1980s) when I was exposed to the first missionary family that came to our church Christ Memorial Temple in Lafayette, Indiana.

We had families from Africa, Germany, Colombia and many, many more continents and countries that would come through when they were here in the USA on their furloughs. They brought pictures, books and lots of testimonies of life abroad. The hardships and the spiritual blessings that were part of day to day life.

I began to read every book I could get my hands on about missions, I sponsored several missionary families with a monthly donation and added them to my daily prayers. Some might say, “how could you possibly give monthly donations if you were under 16 years old?”

Where your heart is, there your money will go also. I babysat, dog sat, cat sat and house sat to earn money for the missionaries that had grabbed ahold of my heart. I did not want their families to go without food, clothing or shelter and I had a deep desire to further the works that they were called to.

Well fast forward and it is now 2020 – my desire to help those in Foreign Missions has not lessoned. I have been blessed to travel to Nicaragua specifically 3 times in the last 10 years and am currently planning a 4th trip.

Inmate Spotlight – March 2016 Sound Bites From Beto

In the Bible, one of the 1st stories we encounter is that of Cain & Able.  There is much to learn and much of great significance in this story, but what I want to focus on is a very key question that Cain asks of God.  He asks, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” (Genesis 4:9) … Continue reading
