Founder – What Is My Purpose In Christ?

  • Romans 8:28 (KJV) And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Hallelujah Brothers and Sisters in Christ, our God is good and worthy to be praised! Donnie Ojemann, the “Emancipated Inmate”, reporting in from the mission field to share the Gospel of Christ and the freedom I have found in Jesus Christ.

  • Isaiah 61:1 (KJV) The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;

The message I would like to share with my Brothers and Sisters in Christ today was inspired by a question that has been posed to me many times on this walk and answered by God’s infallible Word. The question seemed quite appropriate for the title of this message so let’s begin!
What is My Purpose in Christ?
As our love for God grows our desire to be used by Him and our desire for our purpose in Him to be defined grows as well. Without this defining purpose believers often fall victim to the attacks of the enemy that say, “You have no clear purpose in Christ because you are unworthy to be used by Him.” This lie could not be further from the truth!
God wants to use every single one of us to further His Kingdom and He has a purpose for every one of our lives. God’s love for us and our worthiness is made clear through our belief in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ for redemption of our sins. We are now God’s children and each of us has a ministry inside that God will reveal as we keep our focus on Him.

  • stickman_lifting_free_pc_800_2095
Romans 6:18 (KJV) Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness.

I can hear some of your thoughts already, “You mean me? You don’t know what I’ve been through or what I’ve done.” Yes You! God uses every single thing from our past experiences to help mold and customize the ministry He has inside of each of us. The Gospel is the Good News! Sharing your testimony of what God has done for you! Telling someone how you were once a captive to sin and how Jesus set you free! God’s Word says that when Satan tried to overthrow Heaven, He was defeated by the Blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony.

  • Revelation 12:11 (KJV) And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

God takes our “History” and makes it “His Story.” Whether you were an abuser or the abused; a drug dealer or a drug addict, God will build a custom ministry through you based on your testimony that will bring Him Glory.

  • Romans 8:28 (KJV) And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

I hear you asking, “Well, where is this custom ministry at? I see God has made you and your wife’s ministry quite clear but where is mine?” God reveals His purpose and path for our lives on a day to day & sometimes even a minute to minute basis. We must continue to follow where He leads. Which brings us full circle to answering the seemingly elusive question “what about me?”
What is my Purpose in Christ?
To learn our purpose we must read the Word (Bible), God has not left us to wonder around helplessly through the maze of life with no road maps. As we read His Word, He will illuminate what is a specific, rhema, right now word for your life! As you eat of the Bread of Life – it becomes a part of you. This is God’s way of preparing your way in front of you.

  • lost_in_maze_9743
Psalm 119:105 (KJV) Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.

As we read His Word, He molds and matures each one of us so that we will learn how to follow His lead and recognize which doors He has opened and which ones He has closed. The more we read and absorb His Word our paths become clearer and clearer. It is said, “You are what you eat.” Have you read His Word today? He has a mission for us right here, right now!
Now I will list a few “common ministries” that are for all Christians:

Let HIS Light Shine
• Let your light shine

  • Matthew 5:16 (KJV) Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.

Each day that we live, we are to let the Light of Christ (who resides within us) shine outward. When others see us do they see love, joy, peace, kindness and self-control? These are just a few fruit of the Spirit that would bear witness to believers and non-believers alike. Be a walking example of what God can do in a life surrendered to Him. This is a living testimony – ministry through the action of our faith.

  • Romans 12:1 (KJV) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
  • 2 Corinthians 3:2 (NLT) The only letter of recommendation we need is you yourselves. Your lives are a letter written in our hearts; everyone can read it and recognize our good work among you.

Is your life ministering to those around you by your example?
Can people “read” your life and see Christ through your good works?
This is a foundational ministry that we all have right now – all believers!
So Shine Bright Into the Night!

• Love one another

  • John 15:12 (KJV) This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.

Being an example of God’s love to each other is ministry! Jesus’ entire ministry was based on God’s love and this has been extended to each one of us who believe on Jesus Christ and call ourselves His disciples.
For examples on how to love one another let’s take a closer look at God’s Word.

  • Hebrews 10:24-25 (NLT) 24 Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. 25 And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.

Fellowship with like believers and coming together to worship the Lord in our chapel/ assembly services as well as Bible Studies are some ways to express love one another.

  • stick_figure_carry_Heavy Burden
Galatians 6:2 (NLT) Share each other’s burdens, and in this way obey the law of Christ.

We are to help our brothers and sisters when the burden is great! We are not to let them carry the heavy burdens on their own. We listen, we pray and we study the Word of God together – seeking His instruction on how to free ourselves of the weights that so easily knock us off track!
When we help our Kingdom Family, God honors our labor of love and says:

  • Hebrews 6:10 (NKJV) For God is not unjust to forget your work and labor of love which you have shown toward His name, in that you have ministered to the saints, and do minister.

Every single one of us are ministers of God’s Word, even our own eyes have not been opened to our individual customized ministry and purpose. We are to start off with these “common ministries” given to us by God’s Word until more is revealed. We need to be faithful in little so that God can trust us with much!

In the 25th chapter of Matthew, we read about the parable of the talents. Each servant was given a talent of value by the master – but it was up to each individual on how they handled their talent. Jesus is sharing with the disciples:

  • giving_money_pc_800_clr_1938
Matthew 25:14-29 New Living Translation (NLT)
14 “Again, the Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a man going on a long trip. He called together his servants and entrusted his money to them while he was gone. 15 He gave five bags of silver to one, two bags of silver to another, and one bag of silver to the last—dividing it in proportion to their abilities. He then left on his trip.
16 “The servant who received the five bags of silver began to invest the money and earned five more. 17 The servant with two bags of silver also went to work and earned two more. 18 But the servant who received the one bag of silver dug a hole in the ground and hid the master’s money.
19 “After a long time their master returned from his trip and called them to give an account of how they had used his money. 20 The servant to whom he had entrusted the five bags of silver came forward with five more and said, ‘Master, you gave me five bags of silver to invest, and I have earned five more.’
21 “The master was full of praise. ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’
22 “The servant who had received the two bags of silver came forward and said, ‘Master, you gave me two bags of silver to invest, and I have earned two more.’
23 “The master said, ‘Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!’
24 “Then the servant with the one bag of silver came and said, ‘Master, I knew you were a harsh man, harvesting crops you didn’t plant and gathering crops you didn’t cultivate. 25 I was afraid I would lose your money, so I hid it in the earth. Look, here is your money back.’
26 “But the master replied, ‘You wicked and lazy servant! If you knew I harvested crops I didn’t plant and gathered crops I didn’t cultivate, 27 why didn’t you deposit my money in the bank? At least I could have gotten some interest on it.’
28 “Then he ordered, ‘Take the money from this servant, and give it to the one with the ten bags of silver. 29 To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.”
