Isaiah 61:1 King James Version (KJV) The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me; because the Lord hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;
Greetings to all our brothers and sisters in Christ form All For HIM Ministries in the mission field. It is my honor and privilege to report all of the miracles of God’s healing power as I witness the building up of the broken hearted, the liberation of those that are captive (to sin) and the opening of prison to them that are bound (freedom in spirit). Taken from Isaiah 61:1, our All For HIM Ministries core scripture.
Today at our daily Bible Study, here in the dorm, the Holy Spirit honored me with revelation as we shared the story of Jesus healing a man possessed by unclean spirits in Mark 5:1-20. I would like to share these revelations with you in the hope that they enlighten and encourage you as much as they have me.
Many believers and unbelievers have been or still are oppressed by demonic forces similar to the man Jesus encountered in the country of the Gadarenes. In fact our adversary, the devil, presses to get a foothold in the lives of every living person.
Followers of Christ are resisting the devil by the Word of God, while those that are new believers or untrained are overwhelmed and have surrendered themselves as instruments of unrighteousness with little hope of recovery.
Some are oppressed on a minute to minute basis by fear, anger, envy, pride, sexual immorality or chemical addictions. They can add up to what seems like a “legion” of demonic forces impacted our everyday lives.
When oppressed these forces propel us headlong down a path of death and destruction, hurting ourselves and everyone around us (including our family & loved ones). We are no longer welcome in our own homes and become bound (incarcerated) and exiled from society. This is how Jesus found the demon possessed man living in the graveyard of Gadarenes.
This man’s family (just like ours) may have tried to help him unto their own despair, exhausting their love and resources only to be hurt by the one they tried to help again and again. Finally the governing authority in the land had to intervene due to the man’s selfishness, recklessness and unconcern for those he was hurting in his path. They had to bind him and exile him so that he could not hurt those around him. Unchanged, still a slave to demonic forces, each time he would break his chains (make parole) he would run out of the tombs and hurt more people until they could bind him again (parole violation & return to exile!) Sound familiar?
Until Jesus delivered this man he continued to live in exile and hurt himself and others. There was only one solution to the problem and His name is Jesus Christ!
The demons that possesed this man had no choice but to obey the authority of Jesus and leave his body. We have that same authority through Jesus Christ to cast off all oppressing demonic forces!
In the Book of Matthew Chapter 10, Jesus gave his disciples (studies of His Word, like you and me!) instructions to go out and “heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead and cast out devils” verse 8. This is our authority from God through Jesus for believers.
The man was set free by Jesus and given a brand new life!
2 Corinthians 5:17 (KJV) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
But Jesus wasn’t done yet He doesn’t just deliver us from darkness, He gives us life everlasting!
Colossians 1:13 Amplified Bible (AMP) [The Father] has delivered and drawn us to Himself out of the control and the dominion of darkness and has transferred us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,
Life more abundant in Jesus!
John 10:10 New King James Version (NKJV) The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
This man received a life more abundant through Jesus just like we can! The Scriptures tell us that Jesus then restored the man’s mind. The people found the man sitting (collected in a passive and peaceful posture) clothed and in his right mind. That’s Jesus’ healing power! We too can have our minds renewed through God’s Word.
Have you been to Bible Study lately?
But wait there is more! In the account found in Luke 8:39, we see Jesus returned the man to his home to the place he was once not welcome anymore. Jesus was healing relationships with the man and his family and He wants to do the same for us! When you receive the love of Jesus you will obey Him and He will heal the hearts of those we’ve offended.
Can you use some of that healing?
Jesus has all that you need!
Luke 8:39 New King James Version (NKJV) “Return to your own house, and tell what great things God has done for you.” And he went his way and proclaimed throughout the whole city what great things Jesus had done for him.
But wait there’s more!!! Yes, even more! Jesus not only saved the man, cast out all demonic forces in him, restored his mind & healed the broken relationships in his life – He gave the man a testimony and a purpose in his life, a brand new identity!
Jesus told the man to return home and tell everyone what good things God has done for him. He gave him a testimony. Jesus took his history and made His story out of it. He gave the man a purpose to tell everyone about the Gospel (Good News) of Jesus and a new identity as a Child of God!
Now that is a turnaround!
