Psalm 34:8-10 New Living Translation (NLT)
8 Taste and see that the Lord is good. Oh, the joys of those who take refuge in him! 9 Fear the Lord, you his godly people, for those who fear him will have all they need. 10 Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the Lord will lack no good thing.
It is now September and Donnie and I have been married for 7 months! It seems like just yesterday when we said “I do” to each other and God’s call to serve Him in the Prison Harvest field. OMWG – Oh My Wonderful God, what we have experienced already and what we have faith believing that He is doing in our lives…
For those who don’t know, my beloved and I were married via proxy. What that means is that he authorized a friend of ours to “stand in” for him during our actual ceremony since he was not able to attend. God’s favor upon our union is nothing short of miraculous looking back in time, especially since on September 1, 2013 Proxy Marriages in Texas for inmates is no longer allowed!
January 12th – God spoke to us individually about the upcoming road of prison life while serving Him. We both said yes to the Lord and then shared during our 20 minute “date” in Harris County Jail what God had spoken to us separately. (too much for this blog, another day)
January 19th – My beloved asked me for my hand in marriage. I said YES! We would be married now, as soon as possible and not wait until he was released from prison. God has work for us to do and we had both agreed to serve Him with our all.
January 24th – My beloved was able to get his marriage proxy application form notarized and was able to give it to our Pastor after his meeting with him about our upcoming nuptials.
January 29th – I received this invitation: If you are not busy tonight Ladies, I want to invite you to our ladies meeting at Destiny Church Houston! This is how it goes down…we fellowship from 7 to 7:30pm with food and fellowship (Its our relaxing, take a loaf off time.. and believe me that’s what we do!) And then at 7:30pm Mother White will be going forth in the word and if you never heard her speak.. OMG! This Woman of God is a Treasure of Gold and full of wisdom and insight into the plans and ways of God. Tonight she will be setting the stage for the year 2013 for our ladies! These meetings are full of strengthening, accountability, fellowship, presence of God, and plenty of laughter! I wish every lady I knew could come but I know they won’t but if you need direction, uplifting, love and the Presence of God…meet us at Destiny Church Houston tonight! Will I see you there my sistas?
Not only did I go but was blessed beyond my expectations. Mother White brought a Word from the Lord for 2013: IT IS MORNING! It is time to plant and Time to Build! Put on Your work clothes because The King is in the field! The Bible that I had with me was the Good News Translation, this just one of the scripture passages that spoke to my heart, mind and soul:
Isaiah 61:1-7 Good News Translation (GNT)
1. The Sovereign Lord has filled me with his Spirit. He has chosen me and sent me To bring good news to the poor, to heal the broken-hearted, to announce release to captives and freedom to those in prison.
2. He has sent me to proclaim that the time has come when the Lord will save his people and defeat their enemies. He has sent me to comfort all who mourn,
3. To give to those who mourn in Zion joy and gladness instead of grief, a song of praise instead of sorrow. They will be like trees that the Lord himself has planted. They will all do what is right, and God will be praised for what he has done.
4. They will rebuild cities that have long been in ruins.
5. My people, foreigners will serve you. They will take care of your flocks and farm your land and tend your vineyards.
6. And you will be known as the priests of the Lord, the servants of our God. You will enjoy the wealth of the nations and be proud that it is yours.
7. Your shame and disgrace are ended. You will live in your own land, and your wealth will be doubled; your joy will last forever.
January 30th – This evening my beloved’s property was released to me. God was making our pathway straight! (Isaiah 42:16)
January 31st – I was able to go to the courthouse and receive our marriage license. Though only a handful of people knew what I was walking through, this is what I posted on my Facebook page to express my emotions: GOOD MORNING! My soul is singing, God is sooooo good that I cannot keep it to myself! I am thanking God for my brothers and sisters who have been walking with me thru my mourning and now into my Morning! Pastor Rob Morris and his beautiful wife Pastor Bev Morris from River Pointe Church, First Lady Tiffany and Mother White from Destiny Church Houston, my sister Karen and my other sista Yvette. The Key in walking by Faith is to surround yourself with people who BELIEVE that GOD can do ANYTHING! When God speaks to you – Enter the Cloud! It may look dark, it may seem impossible – but God is with you! Enter into the cloud like Moses of old!
Exodus 24:15-18 New Living Translation (NLT) 15 Then Moses climbed up the mountain, and the cloud covered it. 16 And the glory of the Lord settled down on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it for six days. On the seventh day the Lord called to Moses from inside the cloud. 17 To the Israelites at the foot of the mountain, the glory of the Lord appeared at the summit like a consuming fire. 18 Then Moses disappeared into the cloud as he climbed higher up the mountain. He remained on the mountain forty days and forty nights.
February 4th – In the evening, Donnie and I were married at our Pastor’s home. One of our sisters in Christ from our home church made my bouquet; my late husband’s mother was there to give me away (she and my father-in-law bought our wedding rings). Our proxy was there with vows written by my beloved in hand (a surprise wedding present). My new mother-in-law was present too to help witness and document this miraculous event. And last but not least my beloved was able to call in to speak his vows to me and me to him as we repeated after our Pastor and became ONE before God. We were married for 10 minutes before my beloved heard his name called – he was catching chain to go to prison (TDCJ)!
God’s union, God’s timing, God’s plans!
During the month of February the recently married Mr. & Mrs. Ojemann only had contact through the Postal Services – as when an inmate goes through intake, communication is very limited. Gone were the four “dates” a week and weekly phone calls that we had enjoyed at the county jail. We were now ONE yet miles apart. Our daily routines were as far apart as the east is from the west – our only constant was and is Our Father God. He comforted us, He had prepared us and He gave us the love and strength to press closer to HIM as HE is the source of life!
Isaiah 55:8-11 New Living Translation (NLT) 8 “My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. 9 For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts. 10 “The rain and snow come down from the heavens and stay on the ground to water the earth. They cause the grain to grow, producing seed for the farmer and bread for the hungry. 11 It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.
Since that day on February 4, 2013 until now, God’s direction, favor and blessing have flowed beyond our wildest dreams. The Lord has birthed this ministry “All For HIM”, He has poured His love out into us so that our cup is running over and we must share about His love to others!
As we boldly step out in faith, proclaiming the love of our Father God for us and others, there have been some obstacles. I have heard it said “Nothing worth doing will be easy” however when you go to God and give Him all of your cares – Oh His yoke is easy, His burden is light!
Matthew 11:28-30 New Living Translation (NLT) 28 Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”
If we were to strive to “serve God” in our own might, we would be burdened down. For the task set before us is a great one. If a person had given us the task to start a ministry together and disciple men and women for a greater purpose we would fail. Not for lack of trying, but this is something that can only be accomplished by the power and love of God.
With our human training and experience, the role of serving and ministering to others while we are walking through the realities of prison life – the assignment would be too great. Like walking in your father’s shoes when you are just a child, we would not even be able to pick up a foot, let alone take a step forward towards Him.
He is the ONE who spoke – we only answered.
He is the ONE who offered the assignment – we only accepted.
He is the ONE who is pouring into us – we are only sharing what He has given.
He is the ONE who makes our path straight – we just follow the path laid out for us.
He is the ONE giving the increase – we are just working in His harvest field.
God is our shelter when the war of life rages around us!
God is our strength when we are weak!
God is our Father and King, we are His children!
As we feast upon His Word, letting our minds and bodies grow into the like of Christ, we are able to then share the Abundant Life that Jesus Christ desired for each of us to have.
John 10:9-11 King James Version (KJV) 9 I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. 10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. 11 I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
We have tasted and yes the Lord Almighty, Creator of the Universe is Good! Many of you have heard the scripture about the Lord having good plans and thoughts toward you. (Jeremiah 29:11) But have you tasted of Him? Have you accepted His offer to walk after Him with abandon? God loves us more than we can comprehend and wants to commune with us more than on Saturday or Sunday (whichever your custom is). He wants to speak with us and be part of each and every day that we live!
Psalm 118:1 King James Version (KJV) O give thanks unto the Lord; for He is good: because his mercy endureth for ever.
God is Good! God is Generous! God is Mighty and Powerful! God Loves us! Oh God loves us so much that He was not content to stay in Heaven, He has always wanted an intimate relationship with us. Adam & Eve only got to walk in the Garden of Eden with God in the cool of the day. But we, now through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, followers of Christ have the Holy Spirit residing within us!
Romans 8:11 New Living Translation (NLT) The Spirit of God, who raised Jesus from the dead, lives in you. And just as God raised Christ Jesus from the dead, he will give life to your mortal bodies by this same Spirit living within you.
Won’t you allow the Holy Spirit to lead and guide your steps every day? Won’t you be still and listen to what our Father God has planned for you? Don’t worry He may not call you to be a missionary or start a ministry – but then again maybe He will.
Some things I can tell you for sure based on my/our own experiences:
- When He calls you, He will provide
- When He directs, the path will be made straight
- He will always provide a witness to His direction/calling
- He will always confirm His desires with His written Word
We have experienced many blessings and multiple miracles in the last 7 months since our union. We live each day in expectation of God’s Goodness, Grace, Mercy and Love – for He has proven Himself Faithful! Our prayer is that His Word never leaves our lips.
I pray that this writing has encouraged each and every one of you to taste of our Father God and His goodness. Once you have tasted of Jesus Christ and His Righteousness, nothing else will satisfy!
Sincerely Warrior Bride of Christ,
Mrs. Donnie W. Ojemann,
Unity, Trust and Love – All In, All For HIM!
