Ephesians 6:10-20 (NIV) “Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people. 19 Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should.”
Warrior Husbands be aware! We are under attack every single day and night. This means your bride is under attack too! The question is what are you going to do about it locked up and so far away? Here where it’s easy to feel so helpless at times. Just thinking about it makes me clench my sword tighter! The “sword of the Spirit” that is! Men don’t despair the most important battles you can win for your wife are not even in the physical realm, they’re in the spiritual. As sons of the most High God, soldiers of His army we are not just on the battlefield but we are Mighty Warrior’s for Christ making us not just Husbands but Mighty Warrior Husbands! So put on your Armor of God!
You see just as it says in Ephesians 6:12 the war we wage is not “against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” That’s the very atmosphere around us and our wives. This is a spiritual war with spiritual assaults aimed at our beloved brides. This is why I put on spiritual armor and pick up spiritual weapons. I raise my “shield of Faith” high (Ephesians 6:16) in trust that our marriage is in God’s Capable Hands. This shield also quenches the fiery darts of the enemy that he throws at our marriage. (Don’t be surprised who’s hands the enemy uses to throw those darts!)
I don the “Breastplate of Righteousness” found in Ephesians 6:14. It is a symbol of my obedience that keeps the Lord’s protection over me and my wife ensuring that my prayers are answered. In John 14:23 New King James Version (NKJV) Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.”
I buckle my belt of truth around my waist (Ephesians 6:14) so that no lies will cause a fissure in the hedges of protection I pray around my wife.
My sword is the sharpest sword ever made! The only sword ever made that “pierces even to the division of the soul and spirit” and “discerns the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” of my bride. (Hebrews 4:12) My sword was bestowed upon me (and you too) by the most masterful blacksmith ever known and it is the “Sword of the Spirit” His Spirit, which is the Word of God. I use this sword to etch His Words deep in my heart and keep His promises fresh on my lips ready to defend my bride at a moment’s notice. When the adversary rears his ugly head I am ready and poised to promptly chop it off, in the Name of Jesus!
Lastly but not least “Praying always and in all prayer and supplication” (Ephesians 6:18). Staying prayed up and constantly in the Word of God keeps my Sword sharp and the power of His promises in His Word active in our lives. It keeps me prepared to protect and defend the wonderful Bride the Lord has prepared for me.
Husbands there is a far greater protection that we can provide for our wives that muscles, guns and security alarms cannot provide and that is Spiritual Protection! What a better place to learn how to protect our spouses spiritually than right where we are right now? Out there with her in the “free world” our “natural instinct” to physically protect more often times than not gets in the way of our greater need to spiritually protect. You see “the serpent was more cunning than any beast” Genesis 3:1 NKJV. Right here, right now is the perfect place to hone those skills where the physical does not get in the way. Skills you will take home with you when God returns you physically to your Bride.
She is a princess to the Most High God and she is precious. We are more than conquerors in Christ so suit up Warrior Husbands each and every day to “stand firm against the wiles of the devil” and protect the bride your Father God has given you. By doing so, you’ll keep her safe, you’ll give her dominion where ever she goes and you’ll give her favor in all her relationships. Those around her will think, “Wow, why is this woman so special?” You can smile and know that you are behind the scenes keeping God’s Word and promises active in her life, giving her every advantage in life. She’ll be prosperous and she’ll be secure in the knowledge that her husband loves her enough to go to war for her every single day. To stay active in her life, as well as her spiritual life, will draw you both closer to God and to each other. By the way…
I am a Warrior Husband, It’s my job …and I love my job!
